Jiangsu province's first smart highway project will be carried out in Wuxi, with a plan to add over 300 smart points on the 53-km-long Wuxi part of Provincial Highway 342, local media reported on June 12.
The smart highway will make use of new-generation information technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing and will include features such as bridge health inspections, smart information boards, smart service areas, and 5G application services.
With the help of internet of things technology, which is highly developed in Wuxi, the smart highway will provide immediate warnings for things such as illegal parking, driving in the wrong direction, and littering.
In addition, a total of four panoramic monitors will be installed on the Wuxi section of Provincial Highway 342, including the Tianyi Viaduct, Wangjiang Interchange, Xiyu Interchange, and Xigang Road, in order to monitor every movement in real time and prevent traffic problems.
In addition, three flashing early-warning lines will be added to warn cars when pedestrians are crossing the street.
Zhou Changchun, a representative from the Wuxi Transportation Bureau, said that an intelligent ice and snow removal system will be installed within 1.5km of both sides of the Huiyun Bridge. It is expected to spray a snow-melting agent automatically in certain weather conditions.
Zhou said that other highways will be encouraged to follow suit in the future.
