Many slow-selling agricultural products in Wuxi are struggling to achieve good sales though e-commerce retailing, local media reported on June 10.
Since the COVID-19 epidemic began, the local government has offered substantial support to boost consumption and get life and business back to normal, greatly helping to boost market confidence and promote economic development.
Overr many years of development, Wuxi's most famous summer fruit, Yangshan honey peach has realized standardized production and mature transport channels for sales.
However, few other local fruits, such as red bayberries in Mashan town and grapes in Jiangyin's Huangtu town, can be sold in dozens online due to lack of classification and high express delivery costs.
Zhou Qili, director of Guzhu community in Mashan town, said that the red bayberries grown there must be picked up in 20 days when they are ripe and sold on the spot to ensure freshness, which means they can't even be sold in local supermarkets, let alone be sent to other areas by post.
Xu Wenbo, director of Jiangyin's Huangtu town's farmers cooperatives, said producers can earn very little by selling grapes online due to the high costs of packaging and express delivery.
Therefore, government departments said they will call on express enterprises to reduce delivery fees and will build more e-commerce service stations in rural areas to help them revitalize their economies.
