Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province showcased its great competitiveness in technological innovation when 48 of its enterprises and units won 31 provincial science and technology awards on June 10.
Among the 31 awarded projects were three first prize winners. Eleven and 13 projects won the second and third prizes respectively. These projects were related to new generation information technology, new materials, energy conservation and environmental protection and biomedicine industries.
Officials from the Wuxi Science and Technology Bureau said all first prize winners are enterprises which widely promote and apply technological innovation projects. They added that these achievements demonstrate that Wuxi's efforts in establishing a technology innovation system to promote integration of production, education and research has paid off.
Many enterprises have been focusing on tackling key technological problems to grasp core technology and attain independent intellectual property rights. The project by Yixing Baoyin Special Steel Tube Co to develop and industrialize key pipes and core components of advanced nuclear energy systems, as well as the project by Wuxi Hya Technology Co which focused on the application of precision forging in aero engine compressor blades, were singled out as the most outstanding projects.
In order to realize the city's vision of leading the charge in technological innovation in the Yangtze River Delta region, Wuxi has brought together 90 percent of the city's high-level scientific research institutes, 60 percent of its science and technology public service platforms, and 70 percent of the high-level talent and national science and technology projects in its centralized development area along the Wuxi Taihu Bay.
