Wuxi city had 25 enterprises make it into the incubation program of leading provincial innovative enterprises, according to a list recently announced by the Department of Science and Technology of Jiangsu province.
One hundred and fifty-six enterprises in total were included in the program, 16 percent of which were from Wuxi, the second highest number in Jiangsu province.
The department initiated the program in 2012 in expectations of identifying outstanding enterprises to optimize the province's industrial structure. The entered enterprises were required to be qualified with independent intellectual property rights of core technology, high investment innovation, competitive sustainable innovation capacity, self-owned brands, a good innovation culture and enterprise credit. The department gave priority to these enterprises to undertake science and technology planning projects.
The city had another 521 enterprises make into the provincial incubation program of high-tech enterprises in 2018, a year-on-year increase of 73.7 percent and the third best results in the province.
In 2018, the authority of Wuxi city released Wuxi City Innovative Enterprise Multiplication Plan (2018-2022) in an effort to incubate more innovative enterprises and develop clusters of them with increased support under integrated policies.
The number of high-tech enterprises in Wuxi is expected to reach 3,200 by 2020, doubling that of 2017, and 5,000 by 2022.
