The third session of the 16th Wuxi Municipal People's Congress commenced at the Wuxi Great Hall of the People, East China's Jiangsu province, on Jan 22.
The congress was attended by over 400 deputies to the Wuxi People's Congress. They reviewed the work carried out over the past year and made work arrangements for 2019.
The city's acting mayor, Huang Qin, delivered a work report reviewing the past year. On behalf of the Wuxi Municipal People's Government, Huang said that Wuxi led in a number of indicators in Jiangsu province in 2018.

According to the report, the GDP of Wuxi city is expected to exceed 1.1 trillion yuan ($160 billion), a year-on-year growth of 7.4 percent. The result puts Wuxi in second place in Jiangsu province and follows its joining the "GDP trillion club" last year.
The added value of industrial enterprises above a designated size increased by 9 percent to 361.87 billion yuan, which was the first time Wuxi had the top growth rate in Jiangsu province in 20 years.
It is worth mentioning that Wuxi also ranks first in Jiangsu province in number of enterprises above a designated size and listed firms at home and abroad.
Huang added that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and the Wuxi government will continue to take full responsibility for pushing the city's development forward, making Wuxi a livable city with a strong economy, a rich and diverse population, a beautiful environment, and a highly civilized society.
