The new R.H. Grubbs Institute of Isotopic Synthesis in Jiangyin, a county-level city in Wuxi, jointly set up by Wuxi Beita Pharmatech Co. and the American chemist and Nobel laureate Robert Howard Grubbs, was unveiled on Nov 23, announced the Wuxi government.
It is the fourth institute of its kind that is run by local companies and Nobel Prize winners together in Jiangyin.
The institute will focus on the technique of carbon 13 and carbon 14 isotopic labeling and isotope labeled compounds.
Beita Pharmatech Co. is dedicated to preparing and developing carbon 13 and carbon 14 isotope labeled precursor compounds in China.
Its products are mainly used for labeling medical molecules and bioactive molecules, so that research and applications on pharmacokinetics and clinics, as well as disease detections can be performed.
Grubbs won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2005 "for the development of the metathesis method in organic synthesis".
On the same day, the Workstation of Academician Yongmao Zhou was also inaugurated– the 36th academician's workstation in Jiangyin resulting from the local talent program.
