Amway Corp's botanical R&D center went into operation in Wuxi New District (WND), Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on Oct 23, the Chinese-language Wuxi Daily reported.
With a total investment of over $25 million, the project is Amway's only exclusively botanical R&D center in the world. It consists of scientific research laboratories, greenhouses and 700 mu (47 hectares) of farmlands, which are available for research in soil nutrition, botanical physiology and cultivar identification.
Wang Quan, mayor of Wuxi, had an in-depth discussion with Mike Cazer, Amway's chief operating officer, on further cooperation during the opening ceremony of the R&D center.
Amway, a leading producer of health care products and cosmetics, has been cooperating with Wuxi for nearly 20 years, said Wang, adding that the botanical research center in Wuxi would bring Amway more opportunities as the world interest in traditional Chinese medicine expands.
Wang pledged that Wuxi would continuously pay attention to environmental protection and give full play to Wuxi's advantages in organic farming, health food research and the Internet of Things, to promote the collaboration between Amway and local companies and scientific institutions.
The establishment of the botanical research center is an essential part of Amway's development strategy in China, said Cazer. He added that ever since Chinese herbal medicine products have become an impetus for health food development around the world, Amway has been focusing on research in organic farming of traditional Chinese medicine.
