Taicang company wins global innovation award for chip development
Suzhou LEKIN Semiconductor Co, founded in Taicang in 2021, was recently granted the 2025 Global SSL Award of Innovations Top 100 during the International Solid State Lighting Alliance's Annual Convention 2025 in Xiamen, Fujian province.
This accolade is attributed to the company's 340-nanometer short-wave near-ultraviolet vertical LED chip.
In traditional flip-chip structures, light is prone to total internal reflection at the interface between the epitaxial layer and the substrate, resulting in low luminous efficacy. Additionally, the poor thermal conductivity of the substrate restricts the chip's heat dissipation capability, which affects its performance and lifespan.
With the help of epitaxial growth and substrate removal technologies, the company fabricated chips with a vertical structure in this specific wavelength band for the first time. This breakthrough has doubled the chips' luminous efficacy and given the chips with the ability to handle high-current operations and an ultra-long lifespan.
These chips have been widely applied in high-end scenarios such as industrial intelligent manufacturing, bio-medicine, environmental technology, and material aging.
LEKIN Semiconductor boasts a comprehensive set of intellectual property rights across the entire industrial chain of optoelectronic compound semiconductors and holds patents covering regions such as Europe, the United States, Japan, and South Korea. It has played a significant role in driving the growth of the semiconductor industry and fostering an innovation cluster for advanced materials in Taicang.
