Due to its strong ESG (environmental, social and governance) related initiatives, Taicang was recognized as the best practice case in Sino-European ESG at the second Sino-European Corporate ESG Best Practice Conference, which commenced on June 26 in Stuttgart, Germany.

In recent years, to achieve China's dual carbon goals, Taicang has established energy efficiency networks, developed heat pump technologies, and aligned carbon management standards for small and medium-sized enterprises. It has also integrated ESG indicators into the city's strategic development framework and constructed a mechanism encompassing ESG policy support, financing matchmaking, and talent training.

Taicang has also excelled in zero-carbon park construction through collaborations with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. Together, they established a park for Sino-German green and low-carbon cooperation and launched a cooperation zone for Sino-European green digital innovation.

Additionally, Taicang has shaped a green building system involving factories, products, and parks. The city also encourages enterprises to adopt green practices centered on efficiency, cleanliness, low carbon, and circularity.

Led by the dual carbon goals and relying on close Sino-German cooperation, Taicang has forged a green development model with government guidance, enterprise innovation, and international cooperation. These strategic efforts have led to Taicang ranking third on the 2024 list of China's top 100 county-level cities for green development.
