Taicang Day sees stronger China-Germany bonds
The 17th "Taicang Day" event was held in Stuttgart, Germany, on June 25 local time, drawing nearly 300 guests to explore fresh partnerships between China and Germany.
Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economic Affairs of the German state of Baden-Württemberg, stated that Taicang had impressed her deeply thanks for its vibrant investment landscape for German businesses, superb quality of life, and leisurely atmosphere, making it a great practical case for both sides.
Huang Yiyang, Chinese consul general in Frankfurt, pointed out that Taicang's transformation from a small Jiangnan city to an economic powerhouse and then to a standout example of Sino-German local cooperation can be attributed to its farsighted strategic planning and unwavering diligence.
He noted that the Taicang story perfectly exemplifies the fruitful win-win collaborations between Jiangsu province and Baden-Württemberg and expressed hope for deeper cooperation between both parties in areas including people-to-people exchanges, cutting-edge technologies, climate action, and green development.
Thorsten Giehler, head of the Department for Economy, Employment, and Social Development at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, said that GIZ highly values Taicang's focus on its green transition.
He mentioned the long-standing partnership between GIZ and Taicang, which has contributed to the joint implementation of a Sino-German efficiency pilot project that has facilitated knowledge-sharing among enterprises on energy efficiency and emission reduction, as well as concerted efforts to formulate energy-saving measures, paving the way to replicate these practices in other Chinese regions.
Building on the momentum of the event, Taicang made significant strides in fortifying its Sino-German partnerships. The city inked agreements on multiple industrial projects to bolster economic relations, joined forces with GIZ to accelerate its green transition, and forged a relationship with the Bundesliga, positioning Taicang as a pivotal hub for Bundesliga's soccer-related activities in China.
Additionally, the launch of the Sino-German Culture and Business Exchange Center in Frankfurt and the announcement of the 2025 Choral Arts Festival & Sino-German Choral Week, slated for Aug 22 to 24 in Taicang, further underscored the city's commitment to deepening cultural and commercial exchanges with Germany.
