Taicang's foreign trade up 6.7% in Jan-April

In the first four months of this year, Taicang, East China's Jiangsu province, saw 39.01 billion yuan ($5.42 billion) in foreign trade, a year-on-year increase of 6.7 percent. Exports amounted to 23.86 billion yuan, up 17.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

From January to April, Taicang achieved 28.79 billion yuan in general trade, up 2.3 percent and accounting for 73.8 percent of the city's total imports and exports. During the same period, processing trade reached 6.15 billion yuan, a rise of 15.9 percent and representing 15.8 percent of the total. Imports and exports via bonded logistics amounted to 4 billion yuan, a 32-percent increase, making up 10.2 percent of the total.

At the same time, foreign-invested enterprises contributed 22.95 billion yuan, growing by 1.2 percent and representing 58.8 percent of the total, while Taicang's trade with the Belt and Road countries totaled 18.72 billion yuan, up 7.7 percent and accounting for 48 percent of the total.

In January-April, exports through cross-border e-commerce platforms in Taicang were valued at 410 million yuan, with the growth rate accelerating from 104.6 percent in the first quarter to 114 percent.

The number of enterprises in Taicang with actual imports and exports increased to 1,747 from January to April, 66 more than the previous year. Among them, 1,020 enterprises saw year-on-year growth in foreign trade. The top 20 foreign trade enterprises in terms of imports and exports generated 18.61 billion yuan in foreign trade, accounting for 47.7 percent of the city's total.
