Discarded shoes transformed into eco-friendly playground in Taicang
Nike Sports (China) Co, located in Taicang, East China's Jiangsu province, is renovating a children's playground in the city using environmentally friendly rubber materials made from recycled shoes. The facility is set to open at the end of April.

The renovation reused over 20 metric tons of Nike Grind rubber particles, equivalent to recycling more than 90,000 pairs of old shoes.
The recycled shoes are sent to a professional processing center, where materials such as rubber soles and upper fabrics are separated by advanced Nike Grind technology, and then processed into high-quality particles.
Taicang is a key player in the Nike China Logistics Center's supply chain system. The center's wind power project, which is the city's first approved distributed wind power project, includes the construction of two distributed wind turbines with a capacity of 3 megawatts each. As a result, the center now exclusively uses electricity from renewable sources, becoming China's first zero-carbon smart logistics park powered by integrated wind and solar energy.
