Taicang, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, has in recent years made significant progress in pursuing scientific and technological innovation.

Specifically, the output value of high-tech industries in the city hit 85.02 billion yuan ($11.79 billion) in the first half of this year, accounting for 55 percent of the total output value of its large-scale industries and up 2.2 percent year-on-year, according to authorities.

Taicang is currently home to 1,039 effective high-tech enterprises and 1,252 high-tech small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The achievements were largely due to the implementation of a series of policies and measures rolled out by authorities, including an action plan to establish a perfect innovation system that is enterprise-dominant and market-oriented.

Authorities have also been making efforts to encourage enterprises to invest more money in research and development, establish platforms to strengthen cooperation between industries, universities and research institutes, and provide financial support to enterprises that take on scientific and technological innovation projects.

In addition, the local government has also been striving to integrate relevant innovation elements including funding, projects and talents to accelerate the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements.
