Taicang Port in Taicang, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, was ranked 22nd in the list of the top 100 Ports Worldwide in Container Throughput in 2022 recently released by Lloyd's List.
The port handled 8.03 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of container throughput in 2022, up 14 percent year-on-year, and transported 266 million metric tons of cargo, a year-on-year increase of 9 percent.
The port has ranked first in the Yangtze River area in terms of container throughput for 13 consecutive years and the first in the province for five consecutive years.
The port's container throughput totaled 3.82 million TEUs in the first half of this year, rising 1.14 percent year-on-year, and the container throughput of foreign trade hit 2.44 million TEUs. A total of 135 million metric tons of cargo was transported through the port during the period.
The strong performance was largely due to efforts by authorities to accelerate the construction of logistics infrastructure and establish intermodal transport modes to promote the integrated development of port, industries and city, with 34 major projects launched in the port area in 2022.
In addition, Taicang will speed up the port's transformation from a logistics port into both a logistics and trading port. The port's goal is to handle 10 million TEUs of container throughput and 300 million metric tons of cargo throughput by 2025.
