Taicang, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, was included in a provincial pilot program aimed at providing more open and shared green spaces to residents, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development announced on June 9.
Twenty county-level cities in the province made the list.
Taicang has been making efforts to create more green spaces since 1996, including building parks and improving greening rate.

Taicang has built many ecological green spaces including Binhe Park, Yantietang landscape belt, Chengbeihe Wetland Park, Tianjing Lake Park and Jingshui Park over the past three decades.
The city has also carried out renovations and upgrading of more than 50 pocket parks, creating waterfront green corridors.
Fifteen parks in the city were listed among the provincial first batch of open and shared green spaces in April, with the public green spaces reaching 13.56 hectares.
