The Construction of a $900-billion logistics facility in Taicang, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, started on Jan 29.

The project, which is funded by Sinotrans Limited, aims to take advantage of Taicang Port to build a cross-border trade platform.

The facility, which will consist of an international purchase and sales center, a cross-border e-commerce center, a smart logistics center as well as a big data service center, is expected to generate imports and exports worth more than $600 million a year.

On the same day, a logistics facility funded by China International Marine Containers (Group) Co., Ltd. (CIMC) was put into operation.

The 680-million-yuan ($110.82 million) facility, which is focused on the research and development, manufacturing, sales, as well as special containers, logistics equipment, and containerizing equipment service, will add an annual output value of 2.2 billion yuan a year.

Taicang has been making efforts to attract more leading logistics and trade projects in recent years, with major enterprises including QuaTerNes B.V. and Skechers establishing projects in the city.
