Six factories in Taicang, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, were included on the recent list of green factories released by the Industry and Information Technology Department of Jiangsu on Jan 9.

This achievement is largely due to efforts made by Taicang to advance the building of a green manufacturing system in recent years.

The city is currently home to three national green factories, three national enterprises engaged in green design products, and seven provincial green factories.

Taicang is also making efforts to build a green supply chain system by encouraging enterprises to pursue green design, use green materials, conduct green purchasing, develop green manufacturing techniques, promote green packaging, carry out green transportation, and deal with their waste products properly.

Authorities have also implemented a series of measures to encourage the automobile and textile industries to advance building model green supply chain enterprises in a bid to help upstream and downstream enterprises pursue green development.

In addition, authorities will continue its efforts to accelerate the building of a green manufacturing system, cultivate more green factories, and build sustainable industrial systems in the near future.

A "green factory" is a concept proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2017, which attaches great importance to green production in line with China's strategy to establish a green manufacturing system.
