Taicang celebrates Wu Chien-Shiung’s 110th birthday

Taicang, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, recently launched a series of events to mark the 110th birthday of the late Wu Chien-Shiung, a prominent Chinese-American nuclear physicist.
Dubbed the "Chinese Madame Curie", "First Lady of Physics" and "Queen of Nuclear Research", Wu was born in Shanghai on May 31, 1912, and grew up in Liuhe town in Taicang.
Wu is best known for being an expert in the testing of fundamental theories of physics.
To commemorate her achievements, the Suzhou Chien-Shiung Institute of Technology was established in the city.
Taicang is currently one of most vibrant innovation hubs in China. It was ranked among the top 100 counties (districts) nationwide in terms of scientific and technological innovation in 2021.
