Life expectancy of Jiangsu residents rises

The average life expectancy of citizens in Jiangsu reached 79.32 years in 2020, an increase of 2.69 years from 2010, according to the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Statistics on Feb 9.

Life expectancy is considered a reflection of the local economy, healthcare system, environment, and lifestyle.

The figure for men was 77.02 years, 2.42 years longer than that of 2010. The figure for women rose 3.02 years to 81.83 years.

The figures for cities is 80.29 years in Suzhou, 80.15 years in Nanjing, 79.96 years in Wuxi, 79.87 years in Changzhou, 79.58 years in Nantong, 79.41 years in Zhenjiang, 78.88 years in Xuzhou, 78.79 years in Taizhou, 78.77 years in Yangzhou, 78.4 years in Yancheng, 78.32 years in Lianyungang, 78.25 years in Hui'an, and 78.18 years in Suqian.

All the cities have an average female life expectancy that exceeds 80 years old, with Suzhou (82.79 years) having the longest.

Statistics from the bureau also show that Jiangsu had a permanent resident population of 85.054 million in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 0.33 percent.
