Taicang Port container throughout up 31.8% in Jan-Oct period
From January to October, the container throughout of Taicang Port in Taicang, Jiangsu province reached 5.73 million twenty-foot equivalent units, up 31.8 percent year-on-year, local media reported on Nov 28.
The number of foreign trade TEUs was 3.1 million, up 51.8 percent year-on-year. Local authorities attributed the growth to the port's cooperation with other ports in the Yangtze River Delta as well as Taicang's business environment.
From January to October, Shanghai-Taicang water routes transported more than 910,000 TEUs of goods, a year-on-year increase of 15 percent.
"The routes function as highways connecting Shanghai and Suzhou," said Xu Wei, director of sales and operations at Canadian Solar (Suzhou) Co.
The Taicang Port Free Trade Zone is home to over 200 companies, 36 projects invested by 26 Fortune Global 500 multinationals, and 36 projects invested by 23 State-owned companies.
So far, the port has opened 10 container liner routes, three of which leading to foreign ports including Ho Chi Minh, Vladivostok and Vostochny, and seven of which connecting Chinese cities such as Ningbo and Zhoushan.
"Taicang port will deepen cooperation in transport of bulk goods and cargos with the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port ," said Shu Chenhui, an authority at the administration committee of Taicang Port.
