Jiangsu's Taicang, a city that borders northwestern Shanghai, will be building the north wing development zone of the Hongqiao International Hub, according to a conference in Hongqiao district, Shanghai on Sept 10.

The conference witnessed the signing of 24 projects worth 29.09 billion yuan ($4.52 billion) that are part of Taicang's integration into Shanghai and will support Taicang's projects in the north wing of Hongqiao International Hub.

"Taicang boasts the longest border with Shanghai, the shortest distance to Hongqiao International Hub, and the most transportation options," Hu Weijiang, deputy Party secretary of Taicang, said during the conference.

In February, the State Council approved Hongqiao International Hub's development blueprint, which cited Taicang 11 times in sectors like aviation, ports and railways.

"We hope to become a gateway to Shanghai and an important coordinator in the Yangtze River Delta region," Hu said.

Located along the border of the two cities, Taicang's Loujiang New City was designated as a pilot area for regional cooperation in July. The project will function as a bridgehead in Taicang's integration into Shanghai's metropolis circle, according to local authorities.
