Taicang in East China's Jiangsu province, received over 310,000 visitors to its scenic areas during the five-day May Day holiday, with tourism revenue exceeding 2.75 million yuan ($430,000), local media outlets reported on May 9.

Jingcang Lake Park received over 68,000 tourists, Shaxi Ancient Town received over 58,000 tourists, and Modern Agriculture Park received over 44,000 tourists.

"We came from Shanghai to see the Chinese roses in Modern Agriculture Park," said a tourist surname Li who drove her own car from Shanghai's Jiading district.

Most of tourists came from cities in neighboring areas and contributed to a rebound in the tourism industry, said a spokesperson for the municipal culture and tourism bureau.

The municipal transportation bureau told local media that chartered buses and coaches transported over 289,500 passengers from cities including Shanghai, Kunshan, Wuxi, and Nantong.

The 143-kilometer Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway, which started operations in July 2020, also helps bring in tourists from the Yangtze River Delta region.

From May 1 to 4, over 20,000 passengers arrived at Taicang Railway Station and 2,989 passengers arrived at Taicangnan Railway Station.
