How do foreigners get a Chinese driving license?
According to relevant policies, a foreign driving license holder must submit the following certificates and documents to apply for a Chinese driving license:
1. Certificate of identity
Foreign expats must submit their passports and the Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors issued by local police stations.
2. Medical report issued by medical institutions at county-level or higher
The principle of reciprocity is applicable to staff members of foreign embassies and consulates in China as well as the offices of international organizations in China.
3. A translated copy of the foreign driving license
If the foreign driving license is not in Chinese, a translated copy is required. Foreign driving licenses must be valid documents rather than a provisional one, and it should be proof of the holder's eligibility for driving. If the license has expired, is provisional, or was issued with certain restrictions on driving, the holder will be ineligible to apply for a Chinese driving license.
Applicants can search for the official WeChat account of the Suzhou public security bureau at "suzhou_police", click the button "micro-service" (Chinese: 微服务) at the bottom, and then tap "online service" (Chinese: 掌上办事) at the top to make an appointment.
Applicants can then take the aforementioned documents and certificates with them to the Suzhou Department of Motor Vehicles at No 1 Chiyun Road, Suzhou New District.
