Annual container throughput at the Port of Taicang in Suzhou, Jiangsu province reached 5 million TEUs in 2020, ranking 31st among global ports and 10th among Chinese ports.

Over the past several years, the Port of Taicang has been consistently making efforts to streamline its operation services, leading to a 47-percent reduction in the time needed for commodity clearance.

Aa a result, Taicang Customs was recognized as a national civilized organization in a recent contest.

"Had it not been for the timely help offered by Taicang Customs, we would not have been able to export our newly developed COVID-19 detection kits," said Tan Miao, general manager of Suzhou HymonBio.

The company, which has previously not been engaged in the export of products, developed COVID-19 detection kits geared at foreign countries during the outbreak.

With the help of Taicang Customs, the products were able to be exported to other countries.

The Port of Taicang is now planning to establish closer ties with Shanghai Customs in a bid to streamline services for goods being transferred between the two ports.

Taicang Customs has also been encouraging the city's companies to apply for the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status. Companies with AEO recognition are qualified for certain benefits.
