The prototype air conditioner for buses developed by Konvekta (Taicang) is currently being tested at the company's German headquarters, breaking the previous pattern of products being developed in Germany and manufactured in China, local media reported on Aug 28.

The German climate solutions provider has been more closely eyeing China's domestic market and even moved some of its R&D resources to its Taicang company, especially after the outbreak of the COVID-19.

Konvekta (Taicang) was founded in 2000 and has been providing air conditioners and cooling systems for commercial vehicles including buses, trains, and engineering vehicles.

Konvekta (Taicang) strictly follows European standards so as to better serve its high-end clients. Many of its products were later installed on vehicles and trains set for export.

Ge Ming, a spokesperson for Konvekta (Taicang)'s tech department, said that the company's supply chain is in Germany, which resulted in extra costs and higher prices.

He said the new prototype currently being tested in Germany was designed based on China's transportation conditions and will be more affordable to domestic buyers.

The German-based Konvekta is a strong and stable system partner to the commercial vehicle industry and develops climate solutions and standards for people in demanding working environments, as well as cooling systems for temperature-controlled transport.
