The Taicang Experimental School affiliated with Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) broke ground in Taicang, Jiangsu province, on March 23.

The new school will be put into use in September 2021 and will offer a 16-year holistic education from kindergarten to high school, enrolling both domestic and international students.

Located in the Taicang High-Tech Development Zone, the experimental school is expected to cost over 500 million yuan and have a floor space of about 110,000 square meters.

Upon completion, the school will be able to enroll 2,580 students and hire around 240 teachers and administrative staff from China and abroad.

Construction on the school started in March this year, and the kindergarten is expected to open in spring 2021, while the school will become fully operational in September of the same year.

XJTLU, an international joint venture university founded by Xi'an Jiaotong University in China and the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom, signed the Framework Agreement on Strategic Cooperation in Basic Education Reform and Innovation with the municipal government of Taicang in February last year, agreeing to build the school.

Meanwhile, the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang), co-established by the two sides, began construction in April of last year and is expected to begin operating in 2021.
