The Taicang Civic Park, at Shanghai Road, downtown Taicang, recently opened to the public, local media reported on Dec 20.

The park covers an area of 21.4 hectares, 140,000 square meters of which are grassland, and is home to over 4,000 evergreen trees. It is designed to function as the city's "lung" and improve the air quality.

The park is also a vast wetland. The coverage of paved roads and unnecessary facilities are minimized so that the park can absorb rain and make full use of the natural water.

In the west side of the park lies a 2,000-square-meter playground for children. The other facilities include cafes, reading rooms, and tea houses for citizens to relax.
