Big data center to locate in Taicang

A big data center is set to be built in Huangjing, a town in Taicang, eastern Jiangsu province, local media reported on June 27.

The big data center will be jointly constructed by Beijing 21Vianet Broad Band Data Center Co (21Vianet) and the local government.

The project will cover an area of 3.33 hectares, with an investment of $250 million.

The head of 21Vianet said his company was attracted by Huangjing's proximity to Taicang port and Shanghai. President Wang Shiqi said also of interest was its preferential policies and efficient government departments.

Wang added the move to Huangjiang was an important measure for the company to enter eastern China.

A 2.5 million yuan non-profit foundation will also be set up to fund local public welfare establishments.
