The first China-Germany Innovative City Cooperation Forum was held in Berlin, capital of Germany, on June 5, marking the beginning of Taicang Day event.

Roughly 200 officials, representatives of innovative technology companies, industry associations, financial institutions and research institutes from China and Germany attended the event.

Li Zhenjing, economic counselor of the Chinese embassy in Germany, said at the forum that innovation is a new issue between Chinese and German cooperation.

Li pointed out that to further innovative cooperation between the two countries cannot do without the help of their cities and local cities have become an important carrier of their investment, technological exchanges and innovative cooperation.

Sascha Schubert, deputy chairman of German Entrepreneurship Association, revealed that German innovative businesses have made great achievements in China over the past years and the association plans to introduce 60 other such companies to China.

Wang Jianguo, mayor of Taicang, pointed out that Taicang will learn from Germany's advantages in basic research, original innovation and forward-looking development and enhance cooperation with Germany in technological innovation.

Wang added that they will also strengthen exchanges with German cities in education, culture and science.

On the sidelines of the forum, Taicang inked a strategic cooperation agreement with Germany-China Development and Innovation Alliance to help the Chinese city integrate into the international innovation friend circle.
