Taicang port ushers in prosperous development
Four ships recently dropped anchor at Taicang port on the same day, bringing in more than 300,000 tons of cargo, local media reported.
Statistics from the Taicang Pilotage Station show that in the first three months, a total of 252 capesize vessels entered and left the Taicang port, up by 29.8 percent year-on-year.
Taicang port now is serving the largest tonnage of vessels and the largest number of foreign trade ships in a year along the Yangtze River, according to a spokesman for the pilotage station.
Last year, the port received 119,000 vessels, delivered 229 million tons of cargo and 5.07 million containers, year-on-year increases of 12.2 percent, 6.36 percent and 12.4 percent respectively.
The port also inked cooperation agreements with Shanghai International Port Co, Ningbo Zhoushan Port Co and Jiangsu Port Co last year to actively take part in the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta Region.
At present, Taicang port operates more than 80 inland shipping routes and 25 near-sea shipping routes, reaches 50 Yangtze River ports and, and covers 23 ports in countries and regions along the Maritime Silk Road.
