The foreign trade volume in Taicang, Jiangsu province jumped 9.4 percent year on year to 96.11 billion yuan ($13.93 billion) in 2018, data from Taicang Customs shows.

The city's import volume surged 11.1 percent year-on-year to 51.73 billion yuan during the same period while export volume stood at 44.38 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.6 percent.

Statistics show that the foreign trade volume of private companies in the city soared 15.1 percent year-on-year to 25.59 billion yuan during the same period.

Its foreign-invested companies also maintained a stable increase in 2018 with a foreign trade volume of 67.48 billion yuan, accounting for 70.2 percent of Taicang's total foreign trade volume.

As the main foreign trade goods, mechanical and electrical products still led other products in the city with 26.97 billion worth of such products being exported to other countries in 2018, up by 7.5 percent year-on-year.
