Cross-Straits e-sports competition commences in Taicang

The second cross-Straits e-sports competition between college students recently commenced in Taicang, a county-level city of Suzhou, Jiangsu province to help promote the communications and exchanges between the youth of Taiwan and the Chinese mainland.

A total of 123 college students from 19 universities and colleges, including National Tsing Hua University, Ming Chuan University, Nanjing University, and Suzhou Chien-Shiung Institute of Technology, competed with each other in the two video games – League of Legends, and Arena of Valor.

After seven days of severe competition, the team from Taipei Chengshih University of Science and Technology won the championship of League of Legends competition while the team from Nanjing University took the first place in the Arena of Valor competition.

Additionally, forums themed on future cross-Straits e-sports development, and cultural experience and exchange activities were also held during the seven days, as well as a cooperation agreement promoting the development of e-sports in the Yangtze River Delta region was also signed.

The cross-Straits e-sports competition between college students was first held in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province in 2017.

E-sports is a form of sports played via video games. It was included in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia as a demonstration sport, and is scheduled to be a full medal sport in the Asian Games held in China's Hangzhou in 2022.
