The Suzhou Chien-Shiung Institute of Technology in Taicang, a county-level city of Suzhou, Jiangsu province was listed among the 2018 Top 50 Asia Pacific Vocational Colleges at the Education Forum for Asia Annual Conference recently held in Chengdu, Sichuan province.

The Education Forum for Asia Annual Conference, jointly established by UNESCO, Boao Forum for Asia and China Scholarship Council in 2003, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. Political leaders, university principals, experts, scholars, ambassadors, representatives of renowned international organizations, and media workers from 26 countries and regions attended this year's forum, with the total attendance exceeding 1,500.

The award was given to the vocational college due to its studies and achievements in the localization of German "dual system" vocational education, which combines the theoretical study at school and actual practice in the workplace, as well as its strong international influence.

It was commended for being one of those institutions who took the lead in introducing the "dual system" vocational education in China and founding the demonstration and promotion base for the education system. It was also the first in China to establish a Sino-Germany training center.

It has been playing an important role in promoting the reform of Taicang's vocational education, and has made contributions to the area's cooperation with Germany.

Founded in 2004, Suzhou Chien-Shiung Institute of Technology is named after Wu Chien-Shiung (1912-1997). Growing up in Taicang, Wu was a Chinese-American physicist with expertise in the techniques of experimental physics and radioactivity. She worked on the Manhattan Project and was best known for her 1956 experiment that disproved the conservation of parity. Her honorary nicknames include the "First Lady of Physics", the "Chinese Marie Curie" and the "Queen of Nuclear Research".
