Taicang children's choir thrills crowds at chorus festival
A children's choir from Taicang, Jiangsu province captivated audiences with their beautiful voice at the 9th children's chorus festival held in Zunyi, Guizhou province on July 17-20.
Made up of eight to 14-year-old teenagers, the Taicang children's choir had the lowest average age among all the choirs who performed at the festival. Despite this, the songs they sang, including Fei Xiang Lan Tian (Fly to the Blue Sky) and African Alleluia, were spoken highly of by judges and experts.
"The Taicang children's choir is full of harmonious voices. It is one of the two choirs that I like most in the chorus festival," one expert said.
Their excellent performances gained themselves an exclusive interview with China Central Television (CCTV) and the opportunity to perform at the closing ceremony. Only seven participating choirs got such an honor.
Aimed to promote the development of the youth chorus in China, this year's chorus festival attracted 40 choirs of 1,766 children from 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country to participate.
The children's chorus festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism since 2006, is an annual national cultural event.
