A China rose grower in Taicang has fostered a new species of the flower which can bloom three weeks longer than ordinary ones, local media reported.
Two years ago, Ji Haosheng, deputy director of the China rose development base in Taicang, started to cultivate the new species of China rose by cross breeding an existing type of China rose with a French rose.
Different from introducing a new species, to breed a new one requires great patience and also a little bit of luck, said Ji.
After two long years, the 30-day blooming flower is the result of his hard work and dedication.
The Taicang gardener plans to try out the new China rose in two other Chinese cities, Beijing and Shenzhen, to test its resistance to disease and ability to adapt.
If the trial planting succeeds, a brand new species of China rose will be available in China soon.
Ji has dedicated his life to cultivating the China roses in Taicang's Entian Rose Park for 10 years. Every day, he trims the garden's thousands of flowers, loosens soil and applies fertilizer for them together with other gardeners.
Although it may seem unusual for a man to manage flowers in China, Ji says he feels very satisfied when he sees more and more China roses in an increasing number of local residents' homes.
