Taicang village given national honor for pears

Dianzhan village in Taicang, Jiangsu province has been recognized as a national demonstration village along with other 300 villages nationwide for its tasty pears, according to an announcement recently released by China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
The Taicang village's pears are well-received by local residents and those from surrounding areas for their thin peel, crispy and juicy pulp and good taste.
With an annual pear production of 200 tons, Dianzhan village is planted with 350 mu (23.33 hectares) pear trees, 200 mu of which this year have started to bear fruits, according to the leading official of the village.
In recent years, Taicang has seen rapid development in foresting and fruit growing with pears and yellow peaches being the top grown fruits.
At present, the city is home to more than 10,000 mu of forest and fruit trees, 1,200 of which is planted with pear trees and 2,000 of which is yellow peaches trees, with a total annual production of 16,000 tons.
