The leader of a hi-tech research institute in Taicang talks about his achievements and how he strives for further success in the future in order to develop the city's high-end manufacturing industry.

Zhu Mingdeng, executive deputy director of the Taicang Information Technology Research Institute, as well being an associate researcher of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and a member of the China Computer Federation, came to Taicang to start businesses in 2012.

At Taicang Information Technology Research Institute, he and his team are dedicated to transforming CAS' R&D achievements into usable sci-tech products.

Intelligent industry, industrial big data analysis, smart plants and digital cultural industry equipment are the focuses of Taicang Information Technology Research Institute.

Under the guidance of Zhu, the institute has now become a core supporting institute for Jiangsu province's Innovation Base for Industry-University-Institute Cooperation and cultivated more than 150 professionals in software engineering and industrial robots.

"We recently developed an intelligent medical bed, which will be available on the Chinese market soon," said Zhu, adding that "R&D should serve the needs of people and facilitate our lives."

Different from the traditional hospital bed, the newly-developed medical bed features sensing equipment, which can sense patients’ weight, temperature and humidity in the room, and so is very helpful in nursing critically ill patients, according to Zhu.
