Ancient Silk Road themed events held in Taicang
Taicang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province launched a series of cultural activities themed on the ancient Silk Road on July 11 to mark China National Maritime Day.
Hu Jie, the deputy mayor of Taicang city, and 120 attendees, consisting of local residents, and representatives from the media, tourism agencies and the local travel bureau attended the opening ceremony.
Activities on the day included keynote speeches, a painting exhibition themed on "Zheng He's expeditionary trip", and a tourist activity where visitors visited some of the local tourist attractions in Taicang.
Four experts from Beijing and Shanghai were invited to give keynote speeches onZheng He culture and the local tourism industry to shed the light on Taicang's potential advantages in developing all-for-one tourism.
Additionally, the Shanghai Zhongyuan Image Painting Academy donated a painting artwork themed on the Maritime Silk Road. The artwork depicted Zheng He's seven expeditionary trips.
Zheng He (1371-1433), the ancient maritime exploration pioneer, led a series of voyages from Taicang in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to Brunei, Java, Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia, India, the Horn of Africa, and Arabia.
