The early summer is the best time to admire the beautiful bloom of the lotus plant, and here are some of the best places in Taicang for lotus lovers to see it in all its glory.

South Garden

The garden is decorated with more than 800 potted lotuses of over 100 species in all sizes.

The verdurous lotus leaves are exclusive to gardens in Jiangnan, regions south of the Yangtze River, and make for a very pretty sight.

Some of the lotuses are just in bud, reserved just like Jiangnan's gentle maidens; some have been in full bloom, swaying with faint breeze; some have borne seedpods, waiting for its pickers.

Xishan Garden

The historic Xishan Garden has a history of more than 1,000 years, and has a pond filled with pink lotus and green lotus leaves.

Its tranquil surroundings can take you away from the pressures of urban life.

Tianjing Lake

Located downtown, the lotus pond in Tianjing Lake is a perfect place to wind away warm summer evenings after dinner.

Binhe Garden and Chengbei River Wetland Garden are also good options for lotus admirers.
