The craftsman said that the process includes drawing a design, cutting the cowhide, bonding, punching holes, stitching, polishing edges, adjusting shape and applying oil, each of which is critical for the final outcome.

His special store has attracted lots of followers many of whom want to learn Jiang's skills. They said that every piece in Jiang's store is handmade and not only delicate, but also unique.

"Handmade leather goods of pure cowhide present different lustres and textures as time goes by," Jiang said. "I love things with years of existence and the value of leather goods is their company for years."

He said that as a leather craftsman, integrating the traditonal handicraft into modern life is his long-term goal. He plans to expand his small store and and continue to express the beauty and functionality of leather.
