The advanced basic materials industry from Taicang, Jiangsu province was approved as a provincial industry demonstration base, according to the recent list released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The new material industry is one of the emerging pillar industries in Taicang Port Economic and Technological Development Zone, covering new functional materials, senior lubricating oil, new energy materials and electronic information materials.

The zone is home to a group of national and provincial enterprise technology centers and research institutes, such as Sinochem Taicang Chemical Industry Park.

Some 52 new material enterprises above designated size have settled here with an annual industrial output of about 32 billion yuan ($4.8 billion), accounting for 40.4 percent of Taicang port area's total industrial output.

Head of Taicang port area said that they will take this great opportunity to promote the integration of high and new technology, eco-environment protection and information technology, and further develop four major emerging industries, including new equipment, new materials, new energy and new medicine to construct an advanced manufacturing industry system.
