The China-UK Technology Transfer Summit, expected to drive the city's development in life sciences and intelligent manufacturing, took place in Taicang, a county-level city of Suzhou, Jiangsu province on Dec 7.

Numerous renowned experts in biochemistry, nano materials and other fields from the University of Oxford, Imperial College London and related British enterprises attended the summit.

The summit was organized by the Taicang Science and Technology Bureau and the Scientific and Technological Innovation Suzhou Center of the University of Oxford to help local enterprises access outstanding British projects and encourage them to settle in Taicang.

Eight projects put on their roadshows at the summit, including four in life sciences and four in intelligent manufacturing. Some of the areas they covered were medicine design, handheld electrochemical sensors, and new types of RAM storage technology.

Taicang and the UK have always maintained friendly economic and trade relations.

Both BP, one of the world's seven oil and gas "supermajors" and Unilever, the world's largest consumer goods company, sought development in Taicang 10 years ago, and Bakkavor, a leading global provider of fresh prepared foods, established a wholly-owned subsidiary in the city in June of this year.

Officials from the bureau said that Taicang will build an innovative partnership with the UK by establishing research institutions and maker teams. The goal is to promote Taicang's development in biological medicine and the high-end equipment manufacturing industry.
