A delegation from the International Association of Athletics Federations‎ (IAAF) visited Taicang to inspect the city's preparation for the 2018 World Race Walking Championship on Nov 30.

The IAAF affirmed on April 12 this year that Taicang will host the 2018 World Race Walking Championship from May 5 to 6, 2018.

During their visit, projects and schedules for the competition were settled.

Scheduled are races of 50 and 20 kilometers for adult men and women and races of 10 kms for younger male and female walkers.

The opening and closing ceremonies for the competition are set for May 4 and May 6 of 2018. Both ceremonies will feature performances of Chinese culture and Taicang characteristics.

It is the second time that Taicang has organized the top race walking event in the world. The city hosted the Racing Walking World Cup in 2014, which is the predecessor of the world race walking championship and takes place every two years.
