Shaxi ancient town in Taicang, Jiangsu province was officially named as the National Landscape Garden Town by China's construction ministry on Nov 23.

This ancient town is the first one to receive such an honor in Taicang.

The title of Jiangsu Landscape Garden Town has actually gone to the town since 2009 and in order to obtain a national recognition, Shaxi continued improving itself from the following four aspects.

The town has established more than 10 parks to increase the town's green land and offer local residents with more places to relax and take a stroll.

More local trees and flowers have been planted to protect the local ecological system and enrich the variety of plants.

The awareness of loving and cherishing trees and flowers has been continuously improved among local residents and all walks of life in the society have been called on to add a touch of green to the gardens, villages, living communities, and companies.

The ancient town has also focused on the protection of its historical heritages and more than 20 narrow stone-paved streets and two ancient rivers have been restored for now.

Shaxi ancient town is a typical ribbon-shaped town built along one river, boasting a complete pattern of its kind: one river, two streets, three bridges and one island.
