Taicang firm passes FDA inspection
Jiangsu Haijiang Food, the first Taicang-based food company to be approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to have its products sold in the US market, passed a scheduled inspection recently.
The news was announced on Nov 16 by the Taicang Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (EEIQB).
Jiangsu Haijiang Food mainly exports frozen fish eggs and wakame, a type of edible seaweed, to North America which accounts for 15 percent of the company's total export value.
Passing the continual inspections by the American food safety body is key to the future development of the company.
In order to help the Jiangsu Haijiang Food pass the assessment, Taicang EEIQB has taken a series of measures to prepare the company and sent officials to participate in the assessment.
This assessment not only provides valuable experience for Taicang firms in foreign inspection, but also sets standards for the city's export management of food quality, according to the officials of Taicang EEIQB.
FDA is the official regulator in the US for ensuring the safety of food, biological products, and medical devices. The agency inspects food companies entering the US market, with the results an important basis to decide whether a company's products can be sold in the US market.
