Taicang orchestra hits the right note in Japan
Talented musicians from Taicang took part in Japan's first ever China Festival on Oct 21, playing their traditional instruments on behalf of China's Ministry of Culture.
Chinese Rose Orchestra consists of five instrumentalists skilled in playing yangqin, a hammered string instrument, erhu, a two-stringed bowed musical instrument, bamboo flute, ruan, a plucked stringed instrument, and clappers.
The traditional stringed and woodwind instruments, popular in the regions south of the Yangtze River in China, were well received by the audiences.
The orchestra was selected to attend the festival in Japan after impressing at the head of China's Ministry of Culture at the International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival held in June earlier this year.
Founded in 2016, Chinese Rose Orchestra is a non-professional folk music group consisting of a mainly young membership.
The China Festival was held by China's embassy in Japan in order to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan and to promote cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between the two countries.
