The 2017 Taicang China-Germany Marathon is set to take place at the city's Day Mirror Lake on Oct 29.

Taicang has long had friendly relations with Germany and the race is expected to attract more tourists to the beautiful city, according to the organizers.

Participants will be divided into three groups: 13-kilometer female runners, 13-km male runners and 3-km runners, with the entry fee for each category set at 99 yuan ($15), 99 yuan and 69 yuan respectively.

Parent with a child under 14 years old taking part in the 3 km group will enjoy a discounted entry fee of 118 yuan.

The top three runners in the 13-km female and 13-km male groups will be awarded prizes of up to 6,000 yuan and all participants who finish the marathon will receive a beer cap-shaped medal.

Some spectators will even wear traditional Bavarian clothes as they cheer on the runners who will also be offered German cuisine at each supply stop, such as bread and sausages.

Those wanting to take part in the race can log on to the official website (tc.mararun.com) to apply. Oct 20 is the closing date.

The competition is sponsored by Taicang municipal government and organized by Taicang Municipal Bureau of Sports and Taicang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone. Participants' running outfits will be provided by the sportswear manufacturer Nike.
