Taicang's efforts to expand its rural tourism sector yielded fruitful results during the eight-day "Golden Week" holiday, with rural tourism jumping 19.61 percent for the same period year-on-year.

More than 334,000 of the Jiangsu province city's 405,200 tourists who visited over the National Day holiday spent time in rural tourism areas, according to Taicang Municipal Tourism Association on Oct 8.

Rural areas throughout the city, such as Dianzhan village, hosted special activities for visitors such as fruit picking, fishing and camping, as well as offering fresh farm vegetables and poultry.

Taicang's Nandina Garden hosted cooking activities in farmhouse kitchens, and Menghe village opened its newly-built trio of wooden houses and a farmhouse restaurant to visitors for the first time.
