Taicang's emerging industries ranked first in production value compared to that of other counties in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, during the first seven months of 2017, according to Taicang Daily on Sept 4.

The production value of its emerging industries amounted to over 68.3 billion yuan ($10.45 billion) with an increase of 10.6 percent year-on-year in the first seven months of this year.

The city's emerging industries have generated about 5.8 billion yuan in profit during the same period, an increase of 9.6 percent year-on-year and 10.7 percent higher than the average profit made by the municipal large-scale industries.

In recent years, Taicang has taken measures to help the development of emerging industries, including new materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, and biomedicine. The local government has issued preferential policies and helped such enterprises solve the problems they encountered during the development process.

The city's new material industry focuses on the R&D of petrochemical materials, special fibers, high performance structural materials, functional polymer materials, and special inorganic non-metallic materials.

The new material industry has generated 19.32 billion yuan in production value during the first seven months of this year, taking up 28.3 percent of the overall production value generated by local emerging industries.

The local high-end equipment manufacturing industry has accelerated its integration with information technology and improved its industrial chains including marine engineering equipment, new energy equipment, smart equipment and high-end auto parts to construct a competitive cluster of high-end equipment manufacturing industry.

The city's biomedicine industry has paid careful attention to the R&D of medicine, innovative medicine, diagnostic reagents, medical devices, and enzymes. Two biomedical clusters, Taicang Biomedical Industrial Park and Taicang Biobay, have been established.
