Taicang native grabs national decathlon gold

Hu Yufei from Taicang in Jiangsu province took home gold in men’s decathlon on the last day of 2016 National Athletics Championships, held in Tianjin on Sept 17.

Hu picked up the gold medal with a total of 7,616 points, a new personal best. The medal was his second national decathlon gold this year, following his success at the 2016 National Track and Field Grand Prix on June 19 in Chongqing.

Hu is widely acknowledged as a rising star on China's athletics scene. He took home a silver medal in the men's heptathlon at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships on Feb 21, 2016 in Doha, Qatar.

Hu was also the decathlon gold medalist at both the 2014 and 2015 national athletics championships, with a score of 7,433 and 7,488 respectively.

The decathlon involves 10 different track and field events, such as running, high jump and shot put.
